“Enemies”
Reblogged for the tags, which I am too lazy to properly put over here in the caption. Read the tags, y’all. —MM
#they could not have made it more obvious that they are not enemies at all #they couldn’t have made it clearer how much they love and need each other #just look at their eyes and the way they are smirking #it’s unbelievable that anyone could ever think they hated each other #it’s the same thing with irene #it’s so clear that sherlock needs jim and irene just as much as he needs john and mrs hudson #but this fandom is so confused at this point #they don’t see how it’s possible to love and need more than one person at a time #they don’t see that this is about an entire network of people that sherlock adores and depends on #and some of them are a little fucking evil #because sherlock needs that in his life #he wanted to be a pirate remember #he wants adventures and for adventures you need villains #sexy villains nonetheless #everyone on this show does everything because sherlock is bored #they all exist for his fucking benefit #especially jim #ESPECIALLY jim exists for sherlock
Well, except for how Sherlock stops thinking it’s fun after this because Jim turns out to be cool with killing strapping his very limited supply of friends into bomb vests, and there’s that bit in Hound where Sherlock tries to choke the hallucination of Jim because he’s not so much looking forward to playing again as, y’know, he’s deeply afraid of it. And then. You know. There was the ‘jump off the roof’ thing. Which, sure, Jim did because he thinks Sherlock’s the best thing ever, buuuuuut I’m pretty sure Sherlock is sane enough not to appreciate being coerced into suicide as a love note. So yeah, the enchantment’s definitely gone out of this relationship.
Irene’s cool, though. She was just out to fleece the British Government. Which, y’know, Sherlock thinks is great entertainment. (I always liked how he was sitting in that final scene, facing away like, “Pffff, Mycroft’s gone bossy, so see if I care what you do,” till she let on that Moriarty’d helped her and then he was like, “HO HO HO NO WAY I’M LETTING THAT MOTHERFUCKER WALK AWAY WHISTLING. HERE, HAVE A DEDUCTION, CHICA. I can’t believe you threw me over for Moriarty.”)
Honestly I really don’t think he loves Irene. She’s too much like him, and yes, Sherlock thinks Sherlock is AMAZING so that’s quite a flattering comparison, but I don’t think Sherlock would trust himself as far as he could throw himself. But I think Wordstrings got it right with the new Paradox story, that Irene makes him feel Not Alone in the world, knowing there’s somebody else out there like him (Jim proved he’s not like Sherlock, you see, when he showed he didn’t care if people died, which is an interesting parallel of the end of Fall where Jim so desperately wants Sherlock to be just like him). And of course, Sherlock does admire a well-turned mind. So maybe it is love of a sort.
Dear god, though, Moriarty and Irene forming somebody’s support network? That needs an intervention.
