Because if you can’t bitch on Tumblr, then where can you bitch?
(No, actual spoilers, not River Song-type spoilers. Also cut for those who don’t want their squee harshed. TL;DR: Moffat managed to make me both like the episode AND roll my eyes.)
It came so close to being a great episode. I thought it was going to end at “Time to stop doing this because we just jumped off a building,” and I was prepared to squeal and mist up. And then the eye-rolling “I’m so clever” ending had to happen, which personally I find far less poignant and far more “really, we’re doing this again?”
So he can’t go back to 1938 New York. How about 1939 New York? Or maybe 1938 Boston and then take the train down?
(I am also offended, in a very shallow and fannish way, at the idea that a vortex manipulator can go places the TARDIS can’t. Oh, please, our big blue babe can do anything you can do, and she can do it better. ^_^)
In other news, the “you can’t read ahead” thing—I’ve forgiven it this time because it meant I got to watch the Doctor throw a superb tantrum at River, but it really bugs me, and here’s why: WRITERS LIE.
On the other hand, I admit they’ve got me by the throat with curiosity over this ‘Doctor Who?’ thing. The Doctor’s systematically making the universe forget him. I sense complications!
