jomk answered your question: Omegaverse Headcanon Question Time!
Done any thinking about why Omegaverse strikes a chord? I never thought I’d like it, but I’m an omegaverse tart.
I love the world-building. Omegaverse is a world with at least four sexes, god knows how many genders, and physiological and neurological hard-wiring for very different approaches to human sex, sexuality, and caste. This means that human psychology changes. All the history and socialization of sex changes. Relationship dynamics change (homosexuality and heterosexuality lose all meaning when there are something like sixteen different sexual orientations available). The consequences are vast and fundamental, and I LOVE thinking through what it means for the world and the characters.
The sex, of course, plays on themes of dominance/submission, power imbalance, and genderfuckery (and maybe some wish fulfillment—men who have vaginas, women with penises! Fuck your man hard, ladies!). There’s loss of bodily autonomy/integrity, which can play into a rape kink, with the whole issue of people having heats that make them unable to control their desire for sex, even to the point of welcoming rape, not to mention the way a lot of omegaverse writers work the pregnancy angle. There’s some animalism stuff to it, with the knotting and the way a lot of people write the sex. And the social dynamics people tend to write for omegaverse tend to emphasize and heighten a lot of these things. And then, of course, you can invert any of that, for some very satisfying reclamation of power.
