Endverse!Bela

You have Harlan Ellison fans in the background there…

I miss Bela.  She was a piece of work (and she knew it), but she was a really interesting person.

In fact, now that I think of it, she may be on my list of favorite female characters ever.  I love women characters who can be fucked up, imperfect, problematic and even sometimes annoying without the narrative judging them for it.  And it didn’t judge Bela.  It kind of admired her for her balls, actually.  She was brilliant, independent, creative, funny, sarcastic, skilled, mercenary without being completely unfeeling, a match for the boys…  And even better, they liked her for it.  (When she wasn’t driving them up the wall, of course.)

What got her in the end wasn’t that she dared to be less than perfect.  It was just that she’d made a bad call to get out of a bad situation, and eventually it came back to bite her in the ass.  Which, hah, well you could say that’s a recurring theme of the show.
