Fascinating. Would you associate the word ‘informatics’ with what you studied/do? I ask because it happens to be what I do (for a corporate library) and what I study and it kind of sounds like it’s made up of similar things. Small world!

Informatics is absolutely an element of it!  And one that I personally enjoy.  We actually got a CAS program in for informatics and data science in place at my school, JUST too late for me to complete it in time for graduation.  Which is tragic, because om nom data science, seriously.  That stuff is intellectual candy for me.

And yay, corporate libraries!  I’ll bet you feel like you’re on the outs with that, a bit, when it comes to your professional peer group.  I know a lot of LIS students who’re graduating from my school in the next year or so, and while don’t get me wrong, I LOVE academic and public libraries (they kind of feel like home for me), I keep reminding them that the options for LIS people have widened dramatically in the last few years.  A lot of corporations and R&D outfits are looking for librarians to manage their archives and communications, not to mention the tech/internet/social media companies need librarians to help them work with the data.

Librarians are taking over the world, people.  You don’t even know.  It’s the quiet revolution.
