Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has replied to my request for advice on the kitsune/rakshasa art! You all have been immensely patient and thoughtful with me. To those of you who sent me submissions, asks, and other private comments, I want to assure you I won’t publicly publish any part of them without your express permission.
Regarding the art, I think the most honest thing to do is to leave it up, but with an accompanying note. I know now that I did make some people uncomfortable, which I can only wish I could undo. But I drew it, posted it, and have had it reblogged already, so it’s beyond my power to erase. Instead, I’ve added an apology and explanation to all the copies on my blog, along with a link back to the discussion post, so that anyone else who views the art or reblogs it from me will see that as well. I can’t undo it, but I hope that this way some good can come of my mistake. It’s certainly going to be a reminder to me. Sometimes art is problematic, but when it is, it deserves thought and respect, and that’s what I failed to do in this case.
As for the possible story, I’ve received a spectrum of opinions, but I think the most important advice I’ve gotten so far is, “Think long and hard.” I’m still doing that, and I welcome further input on the subject if anyone has thoughts they’d still like to share! Again, if you send me anything on this issue, I’ll keep it confidential unless you give me permission to do otherwise.
Thank you all again. You’ve reminded me once more of how wise, warm and wonderful you all are. I was prepared to accept scoldings, but in the event, I’ve received nothing but generosity and wisdom. You are simply the best followers to be found. That’s all there is to it. <3
