mystradedoodles:

I’d just like to say something.

You do not need to be famous or connected or artistically inclined to do fandom projects. Every tumblr famous blog started with no followers, every con started out as a small idea, every artbook was just a shred of a concept before it got made.

All the blogs like texts, all the podcasts, all the commentators and cumberbitches and mega fic writers started out tiny with a simple idea and possibly far too much time on their hands.

You don’t need have the bbc’s permission or the fandom’s blessing to do your own thing and to do it well.

You don’t need to have experience to learn.

Half of the projects in fandom are newbie projects. Thats what fandom is about. its where you go to learn your craft, and learn to work with people and learn to organise things. Because its not real life and you have to be creative and work together and work on a shoestring to get anything done, and by creative I just mean have mad idea. Whether its tea parties or tunalock.

Most people don’t know anyone famous and havn’t got access to celebrity or great talent. And you don’t need it. Thats why its called fandom.

If a thing is cool, or interesting, or clever, or mad or different or even just ‘fandom’ and local: people will come. People will be interested.

So don’t let anyone tell you you aren’t big enough. If you want a thing, make it happen. If you think a fandom tshirt needs to exist, go make it. If you want to start your own travelling mega con, go to it.

And with that in mind I want to see a convention for fans by fans in the UK. I know of three separate sets of people who want to do this and you’ll likely have seen banners and pleas for help from one or two of them.

If you want to jump in and get started I know all of them would be happy to hear from you. I’d be happy to hear from you.

If you decide to do your own fabulous new thing, I’ll be happy to help out too.

All my love,

Doodles.

Doodles puts into words something I’ve often thought but struggled to express.
