Warnings for Hannibal spoilers.  I made this a link post so the big old spoilery pictures wouldn’t get shoved in your face if you don’t happen to have a Tumblr filter plug-in.

Our first and last(ish) shots of Will in season one. It’s the same shot seen through a mirror. The same use of horizontal and vertical lines to segment the frame – three horizontal sections to the frame, and two vertical ones, with Will poised perfectly in the middle.

In one, he looks through the eyes of killers; in the second, he looks at the eyes of a killer. In one, he stands with the police force behind him; in the second, he’s behind the bars of law. And in one, he tells us his design; but in the second, all we can see is Hannibal’s.

Quid pro quo.

ugghghghhhhghghghgh i freakin’ love the structure of this show.

Everything about this fucking show is genius.

THAT LAST SCENE THOUGH.  You think that was Dr. Gideon that scene was calling back to?  That wasn’t a mirror of Dr. Gideon.  That’s what it will look like on the day Will is standing in Hannibal’s place, the same way he’s stood in the place of all the other killers throughout the episode.  That’s the reflection of the iconic image of Dr. Lecter made famous by Sir Anthony Hopkins, his eyes staring balefully out his prison cell at his visitor.  All the others are callbacks to past events.  This one is a harbinger.

You picked the wrong place to stand, Hannibal.
