1: No guilt!  It’s YOUR fic.  You don’t owe it to anybody to share it unless and until you’re comfortable doing so.

2: Possibly the anxiety is BECAUSE you’ve put more work into it than anything in years?  It feels really vulnerable to sweat and bleed over something and feel really proud of it, and then have to wait to find out whether readers agree or if they’ll decide it’s lame.  (Having read it, I can tell you It the furthest thing from lame—it’s amazing—but logic does not calm the panicky hind-brain.  If only.)

And people can say, “It doesn’t matter what other people think” all they like.  For most of us, it DOES matter.  If we wrote stories only for ourselves, we’d never have to go to the hard work of putting them into words so that other people could read them.  And beyond that, it just…it’s scary to love a thing you did and then have to wait to find out if other people think your opinion is valid.  It’s like somebody smack-talking your babies.

If it would help, you know some of us will happily provide moral support during the posting process, if you would like!  It is a GORGEOUS story, and I am fully confident that you have nothing to be afraid of but fear itself—but damn, fear is scary.
