Thank you for all your posts today/yesterday (am in UK, not quite sure which)! I wrote a very similar thing to one of the posters you cite a week or two ago, about the depressing feeling of being for various reasons unable to join in the Tumblr party and restricted to lurking at the edges. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it, and I’m making tiny efforts to participate more.
I’m glad that I could help! And that I could connect a few more of you UK peeps. ^_^
Okay, and having taken a look through your blog (how had I not checked your Tumblr before, when I already knew you were such a badass writer?) I have a few immediate thoughts:
- 1: OH MY GOD SHE IS SO COOL AND SHE IS TALKING TO ME AAAAAAAH
- 2: ACAFAN OH YEAH OH YEAH
- 3: Fandom CAN feel weirdly dense and hard to penetrate sometimes, but my experience has been that people are massively welcoming and almost always enthusiastic if you just pop in and say hi. 🙂 I will occasionally send PMs to people, just to tell them that they’re awesome at (whatever I admire them for) and that I am a happy stalker of their blog and their existence makes my life better. And I addressed earlier how I tend to just…reply to stuff. But I also know that I am more outgoing than the average fan, which is why I try to remember to do things like this and invite people in—I know how confusing and intimidating it can feel to be on the outside wanting to get in.
- Seriously your blog is SO COOL I am having a hard time getting over it. Augh, it’s all fannish intelligence and clever witty writing-stuff and fic and nommable meta.
- 5: I might just take you up on that knocking on your door in Scotland thing someday…
So, um, in conclusion, HI I’M SO GLAD YOU COMMENTED. Now I will go get some tea and stop being creepily over-enthusiastic about your coolness.
