If you reblog a picture, or a text post, and feel the need to comment in your reblog because you have something to add to the discussion, or to the art, or the picture, awesome. I write reblog fic myself, and some of my followers add really interesting points to articles that come up on my dash.
If all you add is a keyboard smash, a bunch of !!!s, ;.; faces, a lot of words like sweetie and honeypie, etc etc, it’s cool you like the art/article/pictureofbabydeer but can you please do it in the tags and not as a caption on the post itself? So we can reblog said thing without your personal outpour all over it?
Yes, we get you like the thing; we assumed so because you reblogged it.
I’m not trying to say ‘don’t be passionate’, I’m just saying ‘be considerate’ in said passion.
Is that unreasonable?
precious babies i love them
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. BABUS FIGHTING!!! SO CUTE!!!!!
Srsly, tho, I always think pretty hard before adding commentary. I figure “does this need context?” “do I want my followers (or me, later), to know what I’m thinking with this reblog?” “is this a conversation I’m welcome to be part of or do I need to just signal boost and STFU?”
On the other hand, sometimes it’s fun to barf squee all over something. That’s part of the happy.
Oh, are we dictating how people should reblog things to their own blogs again? Must be Tuesday.
Don’t want my input on a reblog? It’s REALLY FUCKING EASY to go to the person I reblogged it from, or the OP. In the meantime, I will continue to make smiley faces and squeeing on posts wherever and whenever I’d like.
ETA: I personally prefer comments on reblogs when I post something, because it’s easier to see if someone actually commented on my post. If they comment in tags, it’s more of a pain to see what’s been said.
So, you know, it really is just a preference, not any sort of etiquette.
I don’t actually care about OP’s opinion. I’m going to continue commenting any time I feel like it, with exceptions made only for “Would it be hurtful for me to inject my opinion right here?” and “Am I butting in on something that is Not My Business?”
Also I frankly LOOOOOOOVE it when people reblog from me and comment, even if it is just “askjdowaeijrwlekj.” I love hearing what people have to say.
Also also, as a matter of fact, commentary in tags drives me a bit mad. If it’s more than just a few words, it’s hell to try to read it and TAGS ARE FOR FINDING THINGS ARGH YOU UNCULTURED TUMBLR SAVAGES ARE BLOWING UP THE INTERNET AND DESTROYING THE UNDERPINNINGS OF METADATA.
But you know. Just an opinion. ^_^
