I was mostly thinking of the murdering Magnussen, actually. ^_^

But by ‘badly,’ I really meant ‘poorly.’  Like when he nearly killed himself a second time from Mary’s bullet when he was running around demonstrating to John that his wife was a liar.

Which I mean, his heart was in the right place on that one.  I really feel like it was his ultimate closure on the mighty fuck-up that began the season.  (I also think that it was the actual climactic moment of the season.)  We see at that point that he really has learned and is demonstrating that he values honesty and John’s ability to make informed choices—and we further see Sherlock and John settle back into a fully stable alignment, in that moment when they take their chairs and accept Mary as a client.

What was poorly done about it was that he really could have let that one wait for another week or so.  Mary wasn’t in any hurry, and the nearly bleeding to death again wasn’t doing anybody any favors.  (Narratively it was also unnecessary, but I suppose it was more dramatic than shuffling lethargically back to the hospital on his own power.)
