Guys, if you know who Cal and Niko are, please hit my inbox!  I am DYING to find people I can geek out with about these books.

They’re like Supernatural might be if the brothers had a healthy relationship (and happened to be POC), the women didn’t always die and everybody was about 50% crazier.  Yes, EVEN crazier.

Yes!

And I get what you mean- “healthy” as in they actually get along 99% of the time and generally don’t lie to each other. But, yeah. Also devoted to each other to the point where being canon soul mates is the only real explanation/excuse.

Yes!

And healthy also in the sense that they are an effective support system for one another.  They keep an eye on each other’s physical and mental well-being and will offer help and conversation when they need it. They also support one another in developing relationships, lives and hobbies beyond just the two of them.

Admittedly, “Do we need to talk about this?” is also a famous Winchester line, but the Winchesters also have some very unhealthy behaviors and history that emotionally undercut each other.

Most notably, the Leandros brothers understand that it’s not their place to make decisions for each other without permission, and they communicate well enough to understand where that permission begins and ends.  Niko would never have dragged Cal’s soul back from death.  He would simply have followed before long.  Which, you know: obsessive in its own right, but in a more respectful way.

Although one thing I find interesting about all this is that Cal’s monster half doesn’t particularly want friends, by and large.  That half of his genetics comes from a solitary predator (not a spoiler, this is in the cover blurb) and he tends not to feel an emotional need for those connections the way a human would.  The kinds of people/creatures he does take a liking to form an interesting pattern. ^_^
