metal clenches around his waist
I have such a thing for this.
I HAVE SUCH A THING FOR CYBERPUNK CYBORG JOHN AU. With lots of sex and twisted psychodrama and Sherlock’s, I dunno, a crack Knife (a Knife being someone who’s so good at the psychology of AIs and getting into their heads that he can cut right into the datanet like he’s one of them).
And. And. John got cybered in the military, after he was wounded in war. When you sign up for the military, you sign a contract that says that if you get disabled before your service is up, they can wire you up with cyborg parts and put you back into service.
Some people theorize that MoD deliberately puts their flesh soldiers into the line of fire, because they want an excuse to turn people into augmented human weapons who’re forced to do what they say.
So that was John. But when he got cybered, the implants didn’t mesh properly with his nervous system, and he ended up discharged on medical grounds with a hand that shakes and a cybernetic leg with an intermittent limp. He wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea of being a pet cyber-soldier, but now he’s cut loose, with nothing to do and no goals, and he thinks it’s beginning to drive him mad.
It happens sometimes with cyborgs whose parts don’t take; the neural feedback makes the brain go haywire. It’s not that weird for a new cyborg to feel dissociated from his parts, like his limbs aren’t really part of him, but John’s feeling a bit paranoid, like someone is keeping tabs on him. And he’s beginning to think he should tell somebody, because it’s starting to get worse—like sometimes it’s not him telling his limbs what to do at all.
One night when he’s heading home from the pub comfortably buzzed, drinking till the creepy sensation of it all dies back, he nearly kills a man. He doesn’t even know the guy, just lunges at him on the street, nearly breaks his neck, and then shakes loose and runs for his life.
That’s when he literally crashes into the Knife in some forgotten London alley.
The Knife’s name is Sherlock, and he’s been trying to find John, because he says John’s not going insane, and it wasn’t John trying to kill that guy. John’s paranoid delusion that he’s not in charge of his own body might not be a delusion at all…
