I disagree with the idea that ‘I posted this on my own blog’ is an acceptable defense for Tumblr posts that insult, attack or mock others.

Your Tumblr is not a private space.  In no way is anything on Tumblr that isn’t password-protected a private space.

If you walked into a restaurant, sat down at a table with your friends and started talking shit loudly enough for the people at the surrounding tables to hear you, you could not defend that as ‘saying what I like in my own space.’

That is Tumblr.  It is not designed to be private, ever.  You are given no privacy here. When you post offensive, insulting or mocking things on here, you are speaking in public to people whom you may or may not know, and moreover you are inviting those people to carry your words to others.  It doesn’t matter what you want or whether you like it.  That’s how the platform is built to work.  Those are the laws of this particular online reality.

Certainly you can post what you like on your own Tumblr, even if it would offend some people.  But when you do, you ARE saying it to the faces of the people you are insulting.  It is disingenuous to claim otherwise.
