Josh Whedon is kind of a dong. I mean, he’s well-intentioned, but still. I’ve seen many reviews suggest that he has the George Lucas Syndrome.

That’s the impression I get too.  I don’t particularly hate him; actually I usually like his work.  And I think that in terms of feminism, he means well and tries harder than most guys (much like Moffat, he’s a middle-to-upper-class straight white man; they have to fail their way to success on these things, like babies learning to walk).

I mean, honestly, I feel like it’s pretty obvious the main issue here was too many ideas/not enough space.  Some of the ideas didn’t even need to be there and were 99% probably the studio’s ideas (”Don’t forget the bumper for Thor’s next movie!” although granted, bare wet Hemsworth back is not to be underestimated).  But mostly, I think someone just really needed to make some ruthless storytelling decisions they couldn’t quite bring themselves to make.

But then he complains about how bringing characters back wrecks the integrity of character death, and I remember that no matter what else he is, at heart he is still a fanboy first, with all the built-in issues that implies.
