(Think about fourteen-year-old Kanan, one of the only survivors of the Jedi purge, landing on the streets and forced to learn survival in a way they never taught him at the temple. Think about him learning to steal and to lie. Think about him changing his name, his clothes, his hair. Hiding his background, hiding his powers. Hiding from the Force.
Think about him drifting through the seedy underbelly of the galaxy, taking the dirtiest and most dangerous jobs, refusing to let anybody get close. Think about him running away every time he starts to care about someone, because his master loved him and died to save him and he can’t bear to let that happen to anyone else.
Think about him flipping the middle finger to the Empire when he can, and sometimes helping people out when he can’t look away, but mostly keeping his head down and staying off the radar. Think about him drinking, brawling, fucking, and always, always staying on the run. Think about him growing up that way.
And then think about him meeting a young ace pilot named Hera Syndulla, a firebrand and a rebel, and somebody who is absolutely one hundred percent going to get herself killed trying to do a noble and a foolish thing. Think about him telling himself sternly to walk away. Think about him utterly failing to do so.
Think about a moon collapsing around them. Think about him reaching out, instinctively, intuitively, and using the Force to save her. Think about him revealing his true self to another person after so long.
Think about him finding himself through her, returning to his path and his destiny because of her, joining her fight and her cause and swearing his life to it because he is hers. Think about the ragtag orphan misfits they adopt together. Think about the partnership they create, the moments of happiness stolen in the face of war.
Or, y’know, maybe don’t think about all that, maybe it wouldn’t help.)
