Hey, folks! An increasing number of people are using Dropbox to share files and stuff in online circles like fandom, where many of us are protective of our real names.
Dropbox has been upgrading its functionality recently, to add things like the ability to comment on files that have been shared. This is fine when you’re sharing files with people you already know. But when you’re making files public, your full name as you have it listed on your Dropbox account is visible to anyone who logs in to view the file. Check it out.
This isn’t the end of the world. Just, after you publicly share a file, click into it and go to Options (at the top right, there) to disable comments, so that people won’t be able to leave notes and see your name.
Or, if you DO want them to be able to leave you comments, you can go into your Dropbox settings and change your name.
But before you do that, just be aware of who else you might have shared files with, and whether you want them to be able to see whatever you change your name to. I.e. Don’t change it to your secret fursona name if your innocent little brother might see that and be moved to google it, thus finding your raunchy art blog that you’ve listed under that name.
