Okay so I’ve been recommending the site Imzy but it functions pretty differently than Tumblr does, so I offered to make a little “how to” post for you all and you seem interested, so here you go! A lil step by step with some basics, screenshots and WAY too much effort. So I hope this is helpful to someone at least!

(FYI: I feel like I should mention, I’m not affiliated with this site at ALL, I’m just making this because people have been asking me questions and were interested in a complete post! So if anything is wrong, that’s on my poor ignorant shoulders.)

First things first; what is Imzy?

The way I’ve been explaining it is by calling it “a community based blogging platform”. It’s geared towards facilitating conversation amongst fans and creating an environment for communities to grow.

Some quotes from the Imzy site to give you an idea of what they’re all about!

“We want to create something that makes you happy.”

“We believe in the power of communities. They create opportunities for fun, growth, learning, warmth, friendship, support, and, well, magic. When people come together in a way that works, it’s just that: magical. And that’s what we’re working towards. We want you to find a place where you belong – wholly, comfortably, and unequivocally.”

Sounds nice, right?

A HUGE THANK YOU TO @pensversusswords FOR MAKING THIS SUPER USEFUL GUIDE!!!

i’d like to really emphasize Mar’s final point- Imzy is a different format than tumblr, and for fandom to foster and grow, engaging with other ppls posts, liking/commenting/discussing is super important! tumblr allows for a fandom experience while lurking, which is great, but im super excited for a platform where everyone in fandom’s no longer an icon on a dashboard but rather another person to talk to and have fun with!

i especially want to encourage fic writers and the older fans of fandom who miss LJ/dreamwidth days to try this out because this is a great platform i think to actually hold conversations, and for any yall who enjoy fics (im assuming….everyone in fandom lol) to go engage with authors too, and everyone else in fandom!

as an artist, i feel tumblr does have slight advantage in that imzy doesnt have reblogs (a detriment for fic writers too) but it does support reposting someone post to other communities, and the space for comments mean yall can actually talk to the artist, hand out a simple compliment, or talk about the piece in specific! i think it’s a nice place to throw up exclusive wips/sketches as well if we wanna show something but not want that stuff being spread around, get feedback from ppl, etc etc

all in all with imzys strict anti-harassment rules & divided spaces thru communities, there’s potential for it to be a better fandom space (esp with tumblr being a p toxic environment)  i hope i’ll see everyone there!!

I signed up for an Imzy. I’m Schuyler over there. So come talk to me about stuff.

I’m also on IMzy… Katiegeeks over there, but I haven’t really started talking much yet.

Very helpful. Reblogging for later when I actually have time to set this thing up.

I’ve been hearing a lot about Imzy lately, but I haven’t yet checked it out. Are any of my mutuals using it?

I’m on it, same name. I have about 100 invites because of Antidiogenes so if anyone needs one, message me with your email!

Also on Imzy, also same name.  I too have many many invites, if anybody wants one!
