I’m looking back and evaluating the outcome of Kinktober today.
I wrote a little over 26,000 words, which I’m pretty sure is by far the largest total I’ve ever managed in one month (I have no idea how you people do NaNoWriMo; you are MONSTERS, and I salute you).
- 21 stories
- 1 (almost) complete series that should end up clocking in at around 10,000 words
- 9 AUs (because I needed more)
- 35 kinks (or thereabouts; it gets hard to keep track of them after a while)
- 2 incidents of nearly getting sick due to sleep deprivation
So I learned that 26,000 words in one month is definitely too much if I want to stay healthy and accomplish anything else in my life. But it feels good to have managed it at least once.
But the most important thing it did is that it got me past my inner critic. I had such a short time span to write each story in that I managed to spend most of the month NOT judging every word before I wrote it down. I had to worry about getting the story down and making it pretty later (if at all).
This is something I’ve struggled with for so long that accomplishing it is an AMAZING FEELING. Hopefully I did enough of it during the month to begin forming a habit I can carry with me.
