Yeah, I know what that’s like! To be honest, I think that’s a place the vast majority of adults with these conditions find themselves in before they discover that yes, that DOES turn out to be them after all.
But here’s the other thing: to a degree, it doesn’t really matter. If you look at those posts and you think, “Wow, that really sounds like me…” then… Well, sure, if you have the capability to, absolutely go look into getting screened. But if you can’t or don’t want to get screened, then go ahead and explore more about the condition if what you’ve read about it resonates with you. It doesn’t matter whether you really think you have it or not. If you find struggles there that you can relate to and respond to, if you find strategies or perspectives that help you cope with whatever idiosyncrasies of your own brain you fight with…then hey. You’ve made your life better, and that’s the most important thing. And you’ve gained a bit of insight about a condition that other people around you may struggle with in their lives, and that’s pretty good too.
