Hi guys! So, I have just seen a lovely post from @staff about a questionable feature that will be rolling out on Tumblr sometime within the next week. It’s called Best Stuff First and it puts the “best” stuff from people you are following at the top of your dash.

Helpfully, they don’t state exactly how they qualify “best” stuff! It seems likely it’ll just do it by note count, which, as you can imagine, is really amazing (read: prohibitive) for blogs and posts that don’t tend to get as many notes right off the bat as others. For example: writing blogs!

I’m normally not one to jump to conclusions/raise the alarm before the fire’s even started, but given I’m not sure exactly what people will even be seeing once this goes live, I decided to throw this post up, just in case.

I’ve never had an issue with writing getting a lower note count on average than other types of posts, because I think that’s to be expected on an art and image based aesthetic blogging site. But… yeah, if text posts are constantly getting shoved to the bottom of the ladder because of this, it’ll be a huge bummer! I hope that’s not the case.

Either way, for people who’d like to keep their timeline chronological, it can be turned off. (If you don’t see the option, your app just hasn’t updated yet.) The help center article at that link explains how to do it.

Hopefully this update isn’t as iffy as it seems like it could be. But, forewarned is forearmed! 😀
