People think of women as being soft lovers, but Mary and Janine aren’t soft with each other.  They’re fierce.  They press their love for each other into bruises in one another’s skin with slim, biting fingers.  They mark it out in teeth patterns, sunk into the hard muscle that lays a centimeter or two beneath soft skin.  They like to fight over who gets to dominate, shining hair flying and full lips peeled back from bullet-teeth.  Their strength, their anger: that’s beauty.  It reveals a woman who can survive the life they lead.

They both know all about softness.  They know how it feels to have a hostage to fortune, someone they love more than their own hearts but who walks in a separate body where she can’t be protected.  They don’t need to know more about that than they already do, and those gentle kisses, soft touches, that worship of the body of a beloved woman…that only comes in the dark, early hours when night wraps them up and shelters them from any eyes that could see their weak points.  Even theirs.

I don’t know why femslash is so much fun BUT IT IS.
