If Anything Sherlock Considered Mary’s Shot a Bit Rude

SHERLOCK: John – Magnussen is all that matters now. You can trust Mary. She saved my life.

Why is Sherlock so hung up on CAM that he finds Mary’s trespass relatively trivial? She shoots him, seemingly in cold blood, after all. Why? It’s ACD canon!

“I have said that [CAM] is the worst man in London, and I would ask you how could one compare the ruffian, who in hot blood bludgeons his mate, with this man, who methodically and at his leisure tortures the soul and wrings the nerves in order to add to his already swollen money-bags?”

I had seldom heard my friend speak with such intensity of feeling.

The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton

Mary is an assassin alright, but she didn’t plan to shoot Sherlock that night. He stumbled upon her passionate disgrace and she blew one through him in the heat of the moment. Mary’s the ruffian and Sherlock’s the bludgeoned mate in this tale. Remember Sherlock is a man who gambles with cannibals. Murderers do not appall him,

But CAM is a different matter. Sherlock Holmes hates CAM so much that when he himself is near death he’s spending what could be his final breaths aiming his personal little revenge machine focussing John on CAM. Sherlock is dying and Mary is the reason. That doesn’t matter. If you really want to violate Sherlock’s ethics do this:

You will not live to tell the tale.

*hugs this meta to her chest*

I think this is probably closer to the truth than anything else I’ve seen on the subject.
