Okay but let’s talk about the three musketeers.  You meet them all in the first episode and then they just stay together and get progressively more awesome.  Matt (aka Daredevil) and Foggy are partners in their own legal practice, of course.  And then there’s Karen.

And Karen is so amazing.  She and Foggy are such precious little salt potatoes.  <3  But despite Matt being the eponymous character, in a very real, strong way, this series is Karen’s story.

I have my own theory of storytelling, which goes like this: You can tell who the main character is because they’re the one who takes the most abuse from the narrative.  And that truly is Karen.  Karen is the one who is most transformed.  Karen is at least as driven as Matt is (and considering Daredevil is Marvel’s answer to Batman, that’s saying a lot).  Karen is, with no question, the one on the hero’s journey, who starts out as an innocent in the world and walks her path to adulthood.

Karen is the one who moves the story forward.  Matt is driven, yes, but he has no goal.  Without her, his story would have been brutally short, bloody, and ultimately pointless.  Karen is the one who gives them a goal and, ultimately, leads them to victory.

Also, PLATONIC MALE/FEMALE FRIENDSHIP.  Can I get a Hell Yeah?
