So, in response to transformativeworks #Fandom First Friday Celebrations and Project Love Up Fic Writers I’m going to do a little recommendation list for Sherlock fandom! This month’s theme is Genderswap and I happen to LOVE that shit, so I thought I would share some of my favorite works around that theme and tag some awesome writers whom I adore. This is a short list from my bookmarks, not a comprehensive one by any means, so pleasepleaseplease go forth and explore, because Femlock is awesome.
(It should be noted: I read and write almost exclusively erotica, so all the entries on this list will be rated Mature or Explicit. ~ I LOVE this fic. The characterization in spot on, the plot is surprisingly believable, and the sex is insanely hot. Not to mention, philalethia’s narrative style is my jam. ~This is a fun one because where a lot of people write Fem!John (including me) very deadpan and sarcastic, this John is more angry and in your face. I find it refreshing and fun. The What Comes Undone Series, by songlin ( songlinwrites) (Johnlock) (Follows the line of canon, so eventual Warning: References to Suicide)
~ I think this is one of the first Sherlock fics I ever read and I’ve read it several times since. I love everything about it: analytical, career conscious Sherlock, long suffering but loving John, case fics, and eventual baby Watson-Holmes (!!!). At the Bottom of the Pool, by philalethia (Johnlock) (Warning: Possessive/jealous behavior on Sherlock’s part)
~ This one is genius. It’s an emotional roller coaster, particularly on Sherlock’s part, even though it’s told from John’s POV, so figure that one out. So many great things packed in to 18k words, and super hot, in character sex too.Lines of Yours, also by philalethia, is a WIP that is essentially a kink exploration with each chapter being a little morsel of porn. It’s glorious. If that sounds like your thing, you should check that out as well.

Non-Binary, Trans*, and Everything Else Fiction
Packing Heat and All Shook Up, by songlin (Johnlock) (Warning: Mentions of Dysphoria)
~ Songlin says these are sort of ‘spiritual sequels’ so I decided to put them together, because I think if you’re going to read one you should read the other. They’re both amazing. I learned so much from reading them and, while I don’t feel qualified to write a trans* character now, it was enlightening. And hot. Did I mention hot? ~ This fic has me, to my own surprise, captivated. It’s gorgeous, intimate and kinda fascinating. The summary really says it better than I can:Because really, how can you explain a polyamorous relationship consisting of an asexual domme, a gay sub, and a vanilla bisexual?
Shame is Overrated, by PrettyArbitrary ( prettyarbitrary) (John Watson/Practically Everyone)
~ I… I almost have no words for this. John and Sherlock live in a world where there is an STI that is totally benign, other than the fact that it gives you the opposite sex organs for a while. Obviously sex ensues. How could it not? I have two things to say about this: 1) thank you for every last hilarious and filthy word of this, and 2) if this were real I would get it on purpose because now I HAVE TO KNOW.If you made it this far, thanks for checking out my rec list! So, I was thinking about my fic rec list from last night and came back to reread it this morning. It occurs to me I made an error in language that some people may take issue with and I’d like to expand on it now.
Generally, I use and have used the term ‘Femlock’ to encompass any gender or sex variant at all within canon. I did it here as well without thinking. I realized this morning that the inclusion of a fic that features a trans man makes that problematic. That is entirely my mistake. I made the list in too much of a rush and didn’t consider my word choice seriously enough and that’s completely on me.
I haven’t received any messages or criticism as of this inclusion, but I’m making it now so it will appear in the notes where people can easily find it. I sincerely hope I haven’t offended anyone with my poor word choice. I hate to think anyone saw the list and thought that I might not be a safe person who respects the gender identity, chosen name, and pronouns of trans or non-binary people. I absolutely am and I apologize profusely for giving the impression that I’m not. I regret not giving that more thought last evening before I made the post, but it’s been reblogged many times now so simply editing it would be disingenuous. I hope this eases my careless insensitivity a bit.
Again, my mistakes are my own, and the authors and fanfiction featured on the list remain amazing. If you enjoy trans!John headcanons, Songlin is your girl. Packing Heat and All Shook Up are glorious and I bow before her writing prowess. Please enjoy the fics despite my embarrassing mistake.
