Professorfangirl expressly asked for me to write on this topic, though to be fair this isn’t the first time I’ve talked about the occasional disconnect between gay erotic fiction and mechanical realities of gay sex. See this post for some general talking points that have come to my attention during my own sexual experiences, some of which address issues relevant to bottoming, like hygiene and the rigidity of position terminology. I don’t write fiction myself, but in addition to my aforementioned experiences with being a RL gay male bottom I’ve also read entirely too much erotic fanfiction in multiple fandoms (as well as original erotica which often more directly resembles pornography and as such has many noticeable stylistic differences, but that’s not my focus here). Online slash fiction was my only real exposure to the mechanics of gay sex before I starting engaging in it myself, and given the general lack of attention paid to non-heterosexual issues in most traditional sexual education sources I would guess that that’s not an uncommon experience. I suppose I can think of these sorts of posts as my way of giving back to the community
and the thought that I’m not only spreading my legs for financial gain.Oh, and if it weren’t incredibly obvious already, this post contains explicit discussion of sex. I’m starting to wonder why I even bother with disclaimers like that…
This is a really long and great advice post on writing better bottoming from a guy who does it often. It was really awesome of him to do this!
