- Leave them ominous, horrible sounding messages that you won’t expand on until much later, forcing them to go into a panic even more than the panic they already told you they were in for the next fucking three hours.
IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING BAD TO SAY TO A PERSON WITH ANXIETY DO NOT:
- Say “there’s an issue”
- Say “I need to talk to you”
- Say “Um, there’s something I need to say”
- Say “I’m afraid I have some bad news”
- Spend an extra long time saying what the fucking news is to make sure it *~*~sounds~*~* right
- JUST SAY IT
- AS FAST AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE
- IN AS BLUNT TERMS AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE
- EVERYTHING ELSE YOU COULD POSSIBLY DO MAKES THE ANXIETY A MILLION TIMES WORSE
This is so important. Seriously, slow talkers freak me out. The ones that pause in between sentences… Just make me panic.
Okay, no, you may think “just spit it out” sounds like a better idea, but I am here to tell you that it can go horribly, horribly wrong.
Slow talkers talk slowly because when they don’t, they say the exact wrong thing. If you think you couldn’t possibly panic more, you’ll change your mind when they actually basically tell you that you’re out of your job, and then have to correct themselves that no, that’s not what they meant.
The leaving vague messages, though: that does suck. Please don’t do that.
