SPENT is an online game about surviving poverty and homelessness. Players must make the difficult decisions necessary to live for one month on $1,000, often having to choose between equally disagreeable options. The game ends when players either run out of money before the end of the month or make it through with money left over.
Quick warning to my followers who grew up poor/are poor. This game isnt a game for people like us. I do not reccommend playing it. It is too difficult and honestly very triggering. It will stress you out. Just dont do it.
I wonder why people made this game. it feels insensitive somewhat. other people’s heartbreaking experiences aren’t a game or something to capitalize on. maybe im being overly dramatic.
I think its primarily meant for people whove never been poor who dont know what daily life is like for poor people. Middle class/rich folks cant understand how gettkng sick for two weeks and having to stay home from work can put at risk for homelessness if not literally make you homeless. They dont understand how you have to work back breaking labor for money even though you know youll have health problems later on.

No, this is useful. People who grew up not having to worry about this kind of thing are basically living in a different world. They have literally no reference for what it’s actually like, and it’s difficult for them to grasp without sitting them down and walking them through it. This isn’t about sympathy. It’s about developing an understanding of how the day to day math and stresses of poverty work so that, maybe, if they have the decency, people with wealth and power can be better equipped to address it in useful ways.
That said, hell if I’m ever going near this. I’ve had to do enough of this in my life.
