Yeah, I wonder how much you/they/people-who-are-not-history-nerds think about it though, uniform kink always seems to be about dress uniforms, not combats. (And now I feel weird and presumptuous urgh)
Yeah, I think some of it depends on the fandom, to be fair. Fandoms about soldiers (Generation Kill comes to mind, but I imagine something like Overwatch would be similar) probably have more of a focus on combats v. mess dress. Sherlock fandom is in love with Sholto in his No. 1 dress and
Bainbridge
in That Jacket. It makes contextual sense.
(I am also totally biased because the idea of anyone putting their oily fingers on my carefully polished mess dress stresses me out, but the friction from CS95s in clothing disparity is hnnnnn…)
Overwatch is really more of a superhero brawler, but some of the characters are/were members of a UN peacekeeping task force, and I THINK YOU KNOW where I’m going to come down in this equation at this point. 😀
As for uniform kink, it really varies from person to person, and based on my own anecdotal experience, I think it might mostly have to do with what exposure the person has to different uniforms. The dress uniforms may be the most visible and well-recognized by your average civilian, and to be fair they are very elegant (speaking as an American woman, it’s just really hard to argue with how a man looks in Marine Corp dress blues). But people who for whatever reason are exposed to combat fatigues seem perfectly willing to adopt a love for them.
