Another ghost-hunting group story:
One time we visited a cemetery in an abandoned hollow (the history guy who organized these really knew his stuff). The woods had grown up around it. He said he wanted to go there mostly because people who knew what they were doing when it came to photography got a lot of photos of orbs there. Take that as you will; he knew very well that orbs are questionable as ghost evidence, but frankly this trip was as much an excuse to get outside and hang out with friends in a pretty location as anything.
So we got there, and it was indeed beautiful. Lovely sunny day, perfect short hike through the woods to the location. The cemetery was sadly run-down, with a lot of broken tombstones and weeds and the fence falling apart in disrepair, but what can you do?
So we went walking around. A couple of us had brought cameras for this trip, to see if we could capture the orb phenomenon. One of the things we noticed on the site was one of those little cherub statues. You might know the kind; the cute little busts of a baby angel leaning its cheek on its hand that people like to put in their gardens or leave by graves as mementos. This one was sitting off to the side, just outside the fenced area like somebody had discarded it. We took a couple of photos of it, because we were taking photos of everything. But after a little while, history guy came back and started taking more.
Then he came over to where a couple of us were chatting, throwing glances at it every so often. “Is that thing getting closer?” he asked us.
We glanced at it. It did seem…well. A little bigger.
We didn’t leave, but we moved away from it. Sure, it was probably in our heads, but why take chances?
A week later, when he’d gotten the photos developed, he brought them over so we could look through them. There was a bit of orb activity, but based on the location and the way we’d been able to see dust in the air when the light filtered through the trees, we figured they were probably just light artifacts. But when we got to the photos of the angel statue, it did seem…well. Bigger.
“Was it by that tree when we first got there?” he asked.
No. It hadn’t been.
