5: What part was hardest to write?
Absolutely the argument. Not just in the sense that it was difficult to write the part where they’re actually shouting at each other in Forever and a Day (which it was), but the whole part where I had to lay the groundwork for it in the story in a way that wouldn’t make it feel like it came out of nowhere. I think I had to go back through a couple of times till I felt like I had it laid out in a way that made sense.
I’m much more inclined toward resolving conflict than making conflict, so it’s always hard for me to write characters getting mad at each other and letting it run away with them.
Honestly I’m still not quite satisfied with it, compared to what I wanted it to be in my head, but I’ve learned that as long as it works for readers, comparing a fic to what I wanted it to be in my head is kind of futile. They’re never as good as we WANT them to be.
Although honestly the hardest part is proving to be the sequel, in which they meet again and I really dig into this mess they’ve left lying between them.
