So hey, what if the reason Jack and Gabriel fought was about what to do with the end of Overwatch?
If Gabriel could see Overwatch going down, and he was like, “We have to destroy it rather than let them have it. They’ll use it for the wrong things.“ But Jack was like, "No, good people are still in Overwatch, and they can do good things even if it doesn’t belong to us anymore.”
I mean, you’ve got Director Petras, right? And repeated hints of conspiracy, and this theme running through the game and lore of coalitions of corporate interests and power-hungry politicians. So instead of destroying Overwatch, what if they wanted to take Overwatch over and use it for their own ends?
And hey, what if that’s why Gabriel’s working with Talon? Because their whole Thing is anti-government/corporate corruption blahblah, so maybe he needed resources and they were down for lending him the aid to bring down Overwatch. And now Gabe is continuing to use them to chase down the people responsible. Meanwhile, in the aftermath Jack is like, “Yeah, okay, Gabe was apparently right, these people are scum,” and he’s doing his own hunting.
