This is an old post ik but the concept of immortals being afraid has always been one that I’ve loved for so many reasons.

I love immortal characters being afraid of their immortality. Like obviously they just go about their daily lives or things move too quickly for them to think about their lifespan and how long they’ll be living… but there has to be moments where they just stop and they think about how long they have left and they get that feeling that we all get when we think about our own mortality.. They get those uneasy shivers and the warm flush that prickles at the back of their necks as if time itself is breathing down it… they get the same questions running through their head. What’s the point? What am I really here for? What if people forget me?

And it’s all just so heartbreaking for them because they know they’re going to witness the rise and fall of so many wonderful and terrible things… they’re going to share moments with people they’ll love unconditionally and who will love them until their time is up.. they know that, with a sick feeling in their stomach, they will always end up alone again. And it’s just so fucking tragic.

There’s a book by Richard Knaak called Frostwing that is pretty much all about this.
