Also, interesting trivia fact, “The Lion in Winter” was Anthony Hopkins’s first feature film, and Katharine Hepburn’s first after the death of Spencer Tracy. That grief and sadness in her performance is GENUINE and she continually added crying to scenes that didn’t call for it because she couldn’t handle the misery. She also gave Anthony Hopkins the little piece of advice that made his career, which was “Stop trying to act, and just say the lines.” Which is why since then he has become ANTHONY FUCKING HOPKINS.
It’s not just a koala tea film, it’s FILM HISTORY. ABOUT A HISTORICAL EVENT. You can’t get better than that.
Oh my GOD, and don’t forget the incredibly witty dialogue. Like, lines that make you laugh out loud and wince at the same time.
Geoffrey: I know. You know I know. I know you know I know. We know Henry knows, and Henry knows we know it. [beat] We’re a knowledgeable family.
or
John: A knife! He’s got a knife!
Eleanor: Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It’s 1183 and we’re barbarians!
