What do you think is going to happen with the baby? Mary is like sis month pregnant, it’s not a fetus anymore. John can endure lots of things but, losing his son/daughter? That’s really hard. Hell, I feel like shit talking about killing a baby.
No, ‘fetus’ is the correct medical term for the baby’s stage of development at this point. It’s a fetus roughly from the end of the first trimester to the point of birth.
Oh, I think they’re going to lose that baby. John and Mary actually having a child would change everything to an extent where I don’t even know how they would manage the show. John is pretty messed up, but I think he has the sense of responsibility to take himself out of dangerous situations at the point where he has a child (god knows, for the first several months after the first baby, most new parents are too busy learning how to rearrange their lives to accommodate their new lifestyle to manage much more than eat/sleep/work/baby—and they’re lucky if they manage to hit all four on a regular basis.) There would absolutely not be room for hijinks with Sherlock in his life, at least not for a year or two.
Even worse, because of that, I WANT them to lose the baby, which pisses me off because this is a position in which the writers put us by introducing the concept in the story to begin with, and I am really sick of stories equating pregnancy and unborn babies with weakness and opportunities to victimize women and use children as little lumps they can pin plot points on.
But yeah, my jaw will drop is that kid is alive by the end of next season. (For that matter, my money is also on Mary dying. I don’t especially want her to, but I’m expecting it.)
