Oh man hun, that has got to be the literal worst. I’m so sorry. Any hope of your insurance/Rx plan helping out at all? (I know, I know, it is to laugh.)
Not sure yet, but I’ve got pretty great health insurance, and you can believe I’m planning to find out.

Oh dear god. I had no idea that was a thing you dealt with. I’m so sorry, because yes, corn in is every damn thing. *hugs*
It’s SO STUPID, MAZ. Also I apologize ahead of time for being a dick every time I go out to eat with somebody at 221b Con. I don’t WANT to be That Girl. I BLAME MONSANTO.

oh hon. i am the same way. i mostly get sore throat and hives, but i had a lot of luck with triamcinolone acetonide for topical issues, and a lot of GPs will give you free samples of it.
Good tip, thanks!
Part of the reason I wanted to bitch about this is because it always brings fellow sufferers out of the woodwork, and then we can bond and share suggestions. For instance, if you live somewhere with a Kinney’s Drugs, they make an effort with their generics to cut out as many potential allergens as possible. Especially good for those with wheat allergies!
They were actually doing pretty well by me till I developed this reaction to microcrystalline cellulose. Now I’m hosed, because that is the excipient of choice for pretty much all OTC drugs, and they’ve started using corn cob scraps to make it because it’s so much cheaper than the wood pulp they’d been producing it with. (I mean, UNDERSTANDABLY, at least in that case. Why toss out industrial by-products when you can do something useful with them?)

damn. why IS corn in everything? that is crazy! 🙁 sorry you have to deal with this.
Because of STUPID MONSANTO and STUPID CORN SUBSIDIES. Ugh, don’t even get me started on monoculture and how much of our money and resources it’s wasting. BUT THAT’S THE REASON.

Yup, as someone who is highly allergic to corn too I have that problem. Add that I am gluten intolerant too and you can see the problem. Every single gluten free product uses corn. Ever. single. one…
Yes! And they’ve started replacing wheat-based products with corn-based products so that people with wheat allergies can have them, BUT IT’S KIND OF A PROBLEM FOR SOME OF US. God, can’t we get some VARIETY in here?
I thank my lucky stars I don’t have a contact allergy to corn. It is a thing. (And then, no plastic bags, storage containers, cellophane or fabrics made of synthetic fibers, no canned goods because the gold coating on the inside is corn-based…)
On another note, I see that Tumblr has started using the @ to auto-link user names. That’s kind of neat.
