Saw the name for Sherlock S3E02 today. Which is fine, I don’t mind spoilers (it’s cool, though; I probably won’t post any, and if I do I’ll label them RIGHT IN THE TITLE SO YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TUMBLR SAVIOR AHAHA), but it reminded me of something I’d forgotten: I get pre-emptively pissed off about new seasons of shows I’m invested in.
It’s because I’ve gotten burned too many times over the years by my favorite shows crashing and burning. I now automatically go on the defensive with every new tidbit I hear, and assume until proven otherwise that they’re going to ruin everything. ”But you can trust ________, they know what they’re doing!” Nope, I can’t. I’ve seen some of the best bomb out or get screwed over by their bosses. The more I hope I can trust them, the harder I brace for failure.
I guess I just don’t trust TV anymore. But I don’t feel unjustified when I have this stance confirmed at least 7 times out of 10.
But if I seem cranky about spoilers or new seasons of shows I purportedly love, now you know why.
(Doctor Who is an exception. If I’m disappointed by that, all I have to do is sit back and wait for the next showrunner. ^_^)
